Bad Gastein Healing Cure History

Bad Gastein is one of Austria’s and probably also Europe’s oldest spa towns. Back in the days, the Romans already knew about the healing powers of the Bad Gastein thermal water.

Starting in the 14th century famous spa guests included Count Meinrad Gorizia, Emperor Frederick III or the famous physician Paracelsus. In the 19th century loyal and recurring bathers included Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria, Empress Elisabeth or Emperor Wilhelm of Germany as well as Bismarck. The cure-seeking citizens or crowned heads knew about the healing powers of the Bad Gastein thermal springs and visited repeatly year after year despite very arduous and time-consuming travels to get here.

The Radon Thermal Springs

The healing effect of radon thermal hot springs made Bad Gastein famous in the early days. Spa guests with musculoskeletal disorders (for example rheumatic diseases, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis), respiratory diseases (chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma) or diseases of the skin (atopic dermatitis, delayed wound healing) find healing, general regeneration and revitalization.

The healing power and healing effect of Bad Gastein

The healing power of the Bad Gastein thermal water and the Healing Mountain (Heilstollen) stems from the noble gas radon. A Bad Gastein cure retreat typically lasts about 2-3 weeks with 8-10 rides into the Heilstollen accommpanied by thermal water sessions, mud baths, massages, healthy foods and breathing the healthy Bad Gastein air.
Radon, trace elements and the soothing warmth of the healing water effect the relief of most problems with the musculoskeletal system. Cells are revitalized by the uniqe climate of radon and warm humidity in the Heilstollen. The healing effect is supported by the famous Bad Gastein health climate. Along with these factors the blood flow of the entire body is increased resulting in more red blood cells and more oxygen delivered to the body tissues and organs. This improved oxygenation increases the healing success considerably and increases well-being and increases the defenses of most spa town guests of Bad Gastein.
